Recycle
for cash

Sniff sniff. What's
that smell?
Oh, it's the stench
from the stale beer cans that have accumulated in your trash.
One word: Recycle.
Two reasons: Replenish
depleted beer funds and yes, you can do your part in conservation.
If you need more
incentive, Cal State Long Beach students, staff, faculty and
alumni receive $1 per pound of aluminum cans compared to 85
cents for the general public.
A licensed California
Redemption Value Buyback facility, the Recycling Center refunds
the deposit customers pay on most beverage containers at the
point of purchase.
The Recycling Center
also offers 41 cents per pound of #1 plastic, 5 cents per
pound of #2 plastic (there's a number on the container inside
the recycling symbol) and 5 cents per pound of glass.
Also a licensed
community drop-off center, the center recycles other materials
including: cardboard, metal, mixed residential paper, newspaper,
glass containers, aluminum cans and, seasonally, even Christmas
trees.
Since its opening
in 1970, the Recycling Center's existence and services are
still unknown to many students.
The Recycling Center
is currently in the process of requesting a grant from the
Department of Conservation in an effort to increase awareness,
Stava said.
The Recycling Center
is located adjacent to Parkside Commons on West Campus Drive.
The Community Drop-off Center is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The CR Buyback
Center is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Both
centers are closed Tuesdays and all major holidays.
