Nugget serves as place to unwind

Staff Reports

Though the semester has just begun, students are bound to become stressed by or before midterms.

The Nugget, located in the University Dining Plaza, combines movies, sports and, most importantly, alcohol. But, thanks to an Alcohol Beverage Control law, the eatery is limited to beer and wine.

To prevent overdrinking, The Nugget allows students to only buy one beer at a time and does not serve pitchers.

Along with alcohol, The Nugget serves hamburgers, pizza and sandwiches. It also serves up entertainment, occasionally showing a movie and sporting events. For more hands-on activities, students can play pool or arcade games in the back.

In the past, live bands would play, including acts such as Sublime and Adam Ant. However, many non-students attended, making for a potentially dangerous situation.

The Nugget is open from Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed on Saturday.

Pyramid makes its mark

Staff Reports

The big blue triangle can be seen from almost all directions. Cal State Long Beach's Pyramid has made a prominent mark on the skyline since its debut in 1994. One of only three pyramid-shaped structures in the country, The Pyramid has become a CSULB icon.

The Pyramid has enough floor space for five volleyball courts, three full basketball courts and four half basketball courts. It also houses The Pointe, an educational conference center, and Frog's Club One, a fitness center.

For sporting events, The Pyramid opened with a seating capacity of close to 5,000, and with expansion, will eventually hold up to 7,500 fans of the black and gold. It is also home court to the division one men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams.

The $22 million facility was designed by a CSULB alumna, architect Don Gibbs, and was built by the Nielsen Construction Company of San Diego.

CSULB students with a current identification card are welcome to attend home sporting events free of charge. For more information, call The Pyramid box office, (562) 985-4949.
