Graduation is over -- now it is time to party

By Christine Shin
On-line Forty-Niner

Congratulations, you've graduated. Now on to the important events, the celebration!

The insanity of the last few weeks may have wreaked delays into your party planning. So here are some last-minute ideas for all you last-minute people.

Going out to a restaurant would be the lowest maintenance: No preparations, no cleanup. From Greek to Indian, Long Beach offers diverse plates for all palettes.

For morning ceremonies, an ideal lunch would be nicely celebrated on an outdoor patio.

The Greek Grill, located on Broadway and Cherry Avenue, offers patio dining and moderately priced entrees. Pine Avenue restaurants offer moderate to high prices but with plenty of different ambiences to choose from.

The Yardhouse in Shoreline Village has a spectacular view of Rainbow Harbor to impress your guests.

Mum's on Pine Avenue offers live musical accompaniment during meals in an intimate setting. This could work better for dinner arrangements following the afternoon ceremonies.

Cha Cha Cha, located on 762 Pacific Ave., has excellent Latin-Caribbean food in a colorful environment.

Plenty of chain restaurants such as Claim Jumper, El Torito, Acapulco and Lonestar, all located on Pacific Coast Highway, can accommodate larger parties. More chain restaurants are located on Lakewood Boulevard and Candlewood Avenue.

But if you prefer to throw your own shindig, why not take advantage of Southern California's weather and have a barbecue in your own backyard. Or for a daytime event, the beach or the park can be a great way to celebrate this momentous event.

If you prefer buffet-stylings, ordering from a restaurant tends to be less expensive than your local caterer.

You can serve simple food items such as hamburgers and hot dogs, chicken and ribs, salads, vegetable appetizers, fruit platters and chips and dips. Keeping the buffet or barbecue simple will allow you to enjoy the festivities and keep the focus on the graduate -- you!
