Non-resident
tuition raised
Staff Reports
The Board of Trustees
approved the tuition hike proposal Wednesday for non-resident
students for fall 2002.
Clara Potes-Fellow, media relations manager for the Chancellor's
office, said the tuition hike will help to balance the budget
recently revised by Gov. Gray Davis.
However, Potes-Fellow said the resident tuition fee is not
going to be increased.
"Keep in mind that out-of-state fees have not been increased
since 1992," Potes-Fellow said. "So it's been 10
years."
The new non-resident fee is now $282 per unit per semester
and $188 per unit per quarter. The current fee is $246 per
semester per unit and $164 per quarter unit.
On average, non-resident students would pay $10,336 annually
including the State University Fee and campus fee. The previous
tuition average was $9, 256.
The fee increase should provide $11.7 million in additional
revenue, which will assist in funding a 1.5 percent compensation
raise for CSU employees in 2002 and 2003.
