Delta Gamma makes a huge splash for charity

By Laurisa Franklin
On-line Forty-Niner

Fraternity brothers in bikinis competed Sunday for Delta Gamma's traditional Anchor Splash, an event raising money for the sorority's philanthropic program, "Service for Sight."

Contributions from the event are donated to The Blind Children's Center, where medical experts serve children with visual impairments and their families. The centers in Los Angeles and Orange County are fully funded by Delta Gamma, said Delta Gamma President Sara Puleo.

Anchor Splash is a competition with a fund-raising raffle between fraternities such as Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Pi, Delta Chi, Theta Chi, Kappa Sigma and Tau Kappa Epsilon. The event took place at the campus pool where many people showed up for barbecue and plenty of laughs.

The fraternities' competed in relay races, a splash competition and synchronized swimming,

"The guys had a blast," Puleo said. "The fraternity guys are such a great help."

The fraternities' shining moments arrived during the synchronized swimming competition, when the men dressed up in bikinis and wigs and performed routines in and around the pool to music. The overall winner's trophy went to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

"The synchronized swimming was the best part," Puleo said, "They are all really good sports."

The event was hoping to exceed last year's contribution of $ 5,000.

"Besides being a little overcast the day was a success," Puleo said. "We are looking forward to donating a lot of money."
