Career
expo with workshops and mixers
By Tom Carey

The Career Development Center is spicing up the job search
for students and alumni Thursday at the inaugural Career Diversity
Expo.
Unlike normal job fairs, the event will host a mixer and workshops
for job seekers to get better acquainted with employers.
Workshops are run by the employers rather than the center
to provide attendees more personal interaction with the employers.
"The workshops are to get a real-world perspective,"
said event coordinator Robin Lee. "Employers can tell
you what they are looking for in a resume or an interview
and how to follow up with an employer.
"The workshops are a great opportunity to find out about
internships, full-time jobs, part-time jobs as well as summer
positions," Lee said.
Although labeled a diversity expo, all students are encouraged
to attend as a celebration of our school's diversity on campus,
according to Lee.
A diverse group of employers will also be participating such
as AT&T, the FBI, Kids 'R' Us, Fed Ex and Target Stores.
Workshops begin at 9 a.m. on the third floor of the University
Student Union and conclude at 11:45 a.m.
The expo will follow the workshops from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
in the USU Ballroom and students are advised to bring resumes
and dress appropriately.
Following the expo, a mixer will be held for job seekers and
employees from 5 to 7 p.m. in the USU center courtyard.
"It's a great chance to get into an employers head and
find out what opportunities lie ahead in the future,"
Lee said.
