President welcomes
campus visitors
Dear 49ers:
Welcome to our BEACH party!
The Kaleidoscope Festival is one of the special events on
campus that I would rank second only to graduation and convocation.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the community and the
campus to be together.
Congratulations to Lee Vail and his great team for planning
this wonderful campus celebration. I'm told that they expect
more than 30,000 people here today. It's a day of celebration
and fun, when we showcase some of our academic programs and
celebrate the accomplishments of our student clubs. It's our
way of showing our appreciation to the community for what
they have done for Cal State Long Beach.
I'm hosting a live television show today from 11 a.m. to noon
in the central quad area, so I hope that you'll come by to
say hello. I will have some student guests and Larry Reynolds,
the new 49er men's basketball coach.
Remember, admission is free. Parking is free. And dress is
casual.
I'm hoping to see all 49ers come out today to enjoy the best
party of the year with the variety of festival food, thrilling
games, challenging contests and educational demonstrations.
Congratulations again to the On-line Forty-Niner for continuing
this wonderful Kaleidoscope tradition. This extraordinary
student paper has distinguished itself with the attention
it pays to special university celebrations.
In closing, I'd like to give my warmest congratulations to
the new student government leaders for Fall 2002 -- President-elect
Danny Vivian, Vice President-elect Sharokh Sheik, and Treasurer-elect
Aristotle Tsekouras. I know it's going to be an exciting year
for all of you.
Go BEACH!
