Kaleidoscope's best bets


Area 1
Engineering Day

The College of Engineering has put together groups, clubs and organizations that will provide exhibits of current projects, games and activities for kids. Highlights include the Cal State Long Beach ASCE concrete canoe, and straw bridge and the CSULB Micromouse Robotics team competition. Rock bands also are playing in this area.

Area 2
Earth Day/Wellness Fair

On and off-campus organizations dedicated to preserving the environment and promotion of good health. There is a pushcart race (Muscle Car 500) and possibly muscle cars on display. A rock-climbing wall is available for people to enjoy. The pushcart races are being sponsored by the CSULB Center for Health Care Innovation and University Foundation. A variety of foods and snacks are offered here.

Area 3
Cesar Chavez Village

This area is dedicated to the late Cesar Chavez. Highlights include a Mariachi band, Folklorico dancing, Chicano and Latino arts and crafts and great cuisine from many Latin countries. The CSULB Cambodian Student Council and Cambodian Student Society will be providing Cambodian cuisine and traditional performances.

Area 4
African Market Place

On and off-campus groups are providing African and other ethnic cuisines, arts and crafts. Many of the CSULB African American groups are in this area as well as groups representative of the Korean, Chinese, Armenia, Turkish and Arab cultures. Highlights are the Alumni Relations walk of fame and the beer garden. The beer garden has beer and snacks in the Nugget area. The Nugget is open today for limited service. There also is an alumni sponsored rock band in this area.

Area 5 and 6
Kids Zone

The Associated Students Inc. Carnival is going on in this area. The carnival has many games for kids. The Army ROTC has their Rope Bridge in this area and there are great activities, foods and other items for sale.
