A.S.I. President touts Beach Pride

Dear community members,

Welcome to our home at Cal State Long Beach. As the Associated Students Inc. president, let me commend you on your choice to visit our campus today, or any day.

We have many physical attractions a motivation to visit the campus. Our land is like a park with many green areas for picnicking and flowering trees for shade. Many art pieces within the University Site-Specific Sculpture Collection can be seen around the campus. The architecture is thoughtfully designed to fit together in a common theme. The campus has an interesting population of cats and sometimes rabbits can be seen scurrying from one bush to another. And if you like beautiful things, check out the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, where carefully maintained bonsai trees compliment more than a hundred Koi fish in the pond.

The atmosphere within CSULB is another reason for visiting campus. Members of campus -- students, faculty, staff, administration and alumni (Yes, our alumni love the campus so much, they keep coming back for activities such as Homecoming and the Concert in the Grove series) -- have a deep sense of pride based on their experiences at CSULB, appropriately called "Beach Pride."

Anyone who stays on the campus for long will go away with very fond memories.

CSULB is committed to fulfilling the mission of the California State University system: To provide education to students. Inside the classroom, our professors provide the best teaching in America. Outside the classroom, the administration and staff enhance student life through a framework of opportunities to participate in organizations and services. CSULB is the happiest place on earth for a student because we have everything (CSULB President Robert Maxson even gives better hugs than Mickey Mouse).

We have become a mecca of higher learning, especially in the areas of ethical leadership development. In every program and department, our people are learning how to lead in their fields, and do so with the best of intentions.

When you leave the campus today, please keep us in your heart. There is an open invitation for you to come back at anytime and enjoy the many things we have to offer.

If you are a prospective student, talk to any student you pass or take a tour through the University Outreach Office. The most impacting experience in my life has been my stay at CSULB.

GO BEACH!

A.S.I. president
