Make a commitment to see 'I Love you'

By Alisha Gomez
On-line Forty-Niner

Love -- one of the trickiest things about being in love is telling the other that he or she needs to change. OK, so maybe that is something that should not be done.

Live out all those thoughts through the newest Musical Theatre West's musical "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," opening Saturday at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.

The musical takes the audience through what it is like in today's dating and mating game, covering topics on dating, marriage, romance, lovers, husbands, wives and having in-laws. The Long Beach performance is the third regional production in Southern California and "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" is the longest running off Broadway musical revue.

The book and lyrics are by Joe Dipietrol. He is also the author of plays such as "Over the River and Through the Woods," "The Kiss at City Hall" and "The Virgin Weeps." He has received the William Inge Theater Festival New Voices in American Theater Award and has won the O'Neill National Playwright's Conference MacArthur Award for comic writing. Music is by Jimmy Roberts and director is Larry Raben and the musical director is Dianne King Vann.

The Broadway musical was hailed by many critics as genius and many production companies have chosen this musical to perform, and this is Musical Theatre West's second to last show of the season.

"I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" is the perfect thing to do if you are going on a date. Couples will also enjoy this performance. It is only running until May 5 on selected days.
