Beach shows early progress

The Long Beach State women’s golf team ended in 9th place after competing in the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., on Monday and Tuesday.
 
The 49ers were fairly consistent shooting a 309 in the first round, 310 for second and 302 in the third, finishing with a combined score of 921.
 
Highlights of the tournament for The Beach included junior Marie Louise Juul, who tied for 20th overall, shooting a three-round total of 227—74-76-77.
 
In addition, Baylor won the tournament with a final score of 876—293, 291, 292, led by Melanie Hagewood, who shot a final score of 215. Colorado State took second place in the 17-team field with a team score of 886—293, 291, 302, while Sarah Sasse of Nebraska claimed the individual honor of shooting the tournament-low score of 209.
 
Also, other notable LBSU performances included freshman Hayley Wilkinson, in her first action as a 49er, shooting 230—76-79-75 and placing 31st, and Teal Thron, who shot 232—78-79-75 and finished in a tie for 33rd.
