Last
month, the Long Beach State women’s basketball
team beat out four other schools to acquire
a Brazilian national player for the 2003-04
season.
Fernanda Santos, a guard from Sao Paulo,
is now playing her freshman season at Lee
University in Tennessee.
After that, she will play her sophomore
campaign at Grayson Junior College in Texas
before becoming an active memberof LBSU.
Santos has already signed a National Letter
of Intent to come to Long Beach State, passing
up Texas, Texas Tech, Auburn, and Nebraska.
Women’s Head Coach Dallas Bolla says she
believes the 6-foot-3-inch Santos has a
lot to offer next year’s team.
“She is a big-time player,” Bolla stated
in a press release. “She can shoot the three,
drive, rebound, she can do a lot. We are
pretty happy to get her.”
The women’s team is now finished with recruiting
for next year.
In addition to Santos, two redshirts have
committed, completing the roster for next
season.
Petra Glaser, a junior center, transferred
from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
She is also a member of a national team,
playing for the German national squad. Crystal
McCutcheon transferred to The Beach from
Pepperdine and is a sophomore guard.
