The
Long Beach State women’s volleyball team
wrapped up regular season play with a pair
of sweeps in the 2002 Baden Thanksgiving
Classic at The Pyramid this past weekend.
The 49ers beat both the Texas-Pan American
Lady Broncos and San Jose State Spartans
to end the season at 28-3.
Brittany
Hochevar recorded two aces on Saturday against
San Jose to reach 209 total, surpassing
former 49er Antoinette White’s 208 mark
from 1989-91 to become the school’s all-time
leader in service aces.
Hochevar also recorded a double-double (10
kills and 37 assists), while Elisha Thomas
and Lindsay Phillips posted 12 kills each.
Thomas also passed another former player
by breaking Cheryl Weaver’s record with
145 block assists in a single season to
become the No.2 all-time.
Defensively, The Beach registered 13 team
blocks, while the Spartans only had five.
Friday, Phillips led LBSU against the UTPA
with 14 kills while Thomas added 10 kills
and three block assists. Hochevar recorded
another double-double (38 assist and 15
digs).
LBSU will face UCLA on Thursday at Pepperdine
at 5 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA
women’s volleyball tournament.
