Downstairs CafeThe Long Beach State women’s volleyball team improved to 6-0 after defeating both the Colorado State University Rams and the University of Wyoming Cowgirls at a three-team round robin tournament in Fort Collins, Colo.

The fifth-ranked 49ers breezed past Wyoming in three straight games, 30-15, 30-20, 30-26, Friday night at Moby Arena.

LBSU senior Elisha Thomas had a solid night, adding 12 kills, and had the team-high .786 attack percentage. Senior Brittany Hochevar recorded 42 assists and 7 digs, while sophomore Kessie Doering had 11 kills and 7 digs for The Beach.

The Cowgirls Sara Maytorena posted a team-high 11 kills and Michele Rauter added nine kills.

The 49ers hit .385 and kept the Cowgirls to a mere .046 hitting percentage with a stifling defense.

In addition, freshman Robin Miramontes suffered a knee injury in game three, which kept her from returning. She was evaluated by LBSU medical staff when the team returned home Saturday, but her status remains unknown.

In Thursday night’s contest, the 49ers faced No. 18-ranked Colorado State, who hosted the tournament, and erased any home court advantage by winning on the Rams’ own floor, 30-24, 30-26, 26-30, 30-23.

Hochevar exerted another stellar performance, contributing 10 kills and 44 assists for the night, as well as climbing her way higher up The Beach’s record books. Hochevar, after that match, had tallied 162 service aces in her near four-year career and passed former 49er Misty May for No. 2 all time in career service aces.

Thomas hammered down 15 kills and a pair of digs, while Miramontes added 11 kills and three block assists. Miramontes also had a team high .381 hitting percentage.

Colorado State freshman Andreya Downs led the Rams with a match-high 17 kills and six blocks, while Tess Rogers pounded 14 kills.

The 49ers hit just .199 for the evening, while the Rams maintained a .190 hitting percentage.

LBSU women’s volleyball action continues as The Beach takes on the University of San Diego at The Pyramid on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
