Women’s
volleyball remains undefeated

The
Long Beach State women’s volleyball team
hosted the Mizuno Invitational at The Pyramid
over the weekend, and home court advantage
was certainly in effect as the fifth-ranked
49ers rolled to a 4-0 record to begin its
2002 campaign.
The
Beach swept Baylor University, 30-25, 30-23,
20-25, and Oral Roberts University, 30-23,
30-20, 30-17, Saturday.
Elisha
Thomas hammered 15 kills, while Kessie Doering
added 14 to lead the LBSU attack against
Baylor.
Against
Oral Roberts, Erika Chidester had nine kills
and a career-high 10 blocks to lift The
Beach to big victory. Also, Raimi Mitchell
contributed nine kills in the match.
The
LBSU defense staggered the Golden Eagles,
who hit a low .064 in the match.
In
addition, The Beach cruised to a pair of
wins on Friday, sweeping the University
of Dayton, 30-15, 30-19, 30-23, and the
University of Loyola, Chicago, 30-16, 30-17,
30-21.
Chidester
tallied a career-high 11 kills to propel
LBSU over Dayton before a home crowd of
2,166.
Also,
the 49ers collected 10.5 team blocks and
54 digs en route to an easy win over Loyola.
