The
individual players gave solid performances,
but the Long Beach State women’s golf team
placed 10th overall in a field of 11 in
the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at the
Tacoma Golf and Country Club in Tacoma,
Wash.
The final score for the 49ers came up to
935—315-308-312, while USC won the team
title with an 885—292, 301, 292. Meanwhile,
the University of Washington claimed second
place, scoring 900.
Top players for the overall tournament included
USC’s Mikaela Parmlid winning a playoff
over Pepperdine’s Lindsey Wright. Both players
shot a 214 for three rounds. For the 49ers,
freshman Hayley Wilkinson shot a 72 in the
final round of the tournament and tied for
a seventh-place finish. Wilkinson’s overall
score concluded with a three-over-par, three-round
total of 222—76-74-72.
The 222 score by Wilkinson was her best
showing as a member of the 49ers, while
competing in only her third collegiate tournament.
“It’s really good to see her come around
and come through on this tournament,” Coach
Sue Ewart said.
Other highlights of the invitational included
junior Marie Louise Juul shooting a 79 in
the final round and finished with an overall
score of 237—80-78-79, placing 42nd. Senior
assistant captain senior Teal Thron and
team captain senior Carla Legaspi both shot
a 241 tying for 48th overall.
Coach Sue Ewart said that the players each
gave solid performances, despite playing
on a new course.
“All players were really consistent score
wise,” Ewart said. “Overall it was a good
tournament and everyone was focused on getting
the job done.”
The 49ers women’s golf team return to action
to compete in the Wahine Fall Invitational
on Oct. 29 and 30 at the Kapolei Golf Course
in Oahu, Hawaii.
