polo takes ninth in NorCal

The
Long Beach State men’s water polo team racked
up some impressive wins this past weekend,
claiming ninth at the NorCal Tournament
in Berkeley.
On Sunday, the no. 9-ranked 49ers (9-8)
defeated UC San Diego for the ninth place
game in an 8-6 victory.
High
scorer for the game included sophomore Erik
Geoffroy, posting four goals for the 49ers.
Also, LBSU senior Kellyn Carlson fired in
two goals and sophomore goalie Michael Konstas
recorded a career-high tying 11 saves.
The team racked up an earlier win that day,
beating the Princeton Tigers, 10-7.
Team captain senior Aaron Holloway and junior
Pat Logan both scored three goals to lead
the 49ers to the 10-7 victory.
On Saturday afternoon, The Beach’s tournament
competition included a 15-5 win against
UC Santa Cruz.
Geoffroy scored three goals, while Holloway
and junior David Del Grande added two each.
LBSU led 6-1 after the first quarter and
9-2 at the half.
Freshman Thomas Onyshko defended The Beach’s
goal, finishing with five saves.
In addition, eleven different 49ers scored
in the game.
Earlier on Saturday, the 49ers fell to Loyola
Marymount, 12-13, in a sudden death face-off.
Geoffroy led the 49ers with a career-high
five goals, while junior Nathan Allard scored
two.
The Lions improved to 6-6 with its second
victory over the 49ers this season, and
Kevin Witt led LMU with four goals.
LBSU action returns to the pool this weekend
as the 49ers host the University of California
on Friday at 4 p.m. at the 49er Campus Pool,
and will also host UCSB on Sunday at noon.
