The
Long Beach State women’s soccer team let
their second Big West Conference victory
slip away in the second half as the 49ers
tied host Idaho State, 2-2, in double overtime.
The Beach (3-6-3, 1-0-1) scored two first
half goals and were in control of the game
until late in the second half when the Vandals
(2-6-3, 0-1-1) rallied with two goals in
the final 12 minutes of regulation.
LBSU took the initial lead at the 7:54 mark
when freshman defender Natalie Messina took
a pass from freshman forward Mackenzie Blechel
and scored from deep on the right side of
the field.
Junior defender/midfielder Lauren Doffing
gave the 49ers a 2-0 lead at the 29:40 mark
when she scored from two yards out.
LBSU shut out the Vandals until Laura Humphreys
took a rebound from 49ers goalie Hannah
Cochrun and scored at the 78:22 mark.
Minutes later, Idaho tied the game when
Adriane Kehl scored at the 81:34 mark.
The Beach had an opportunity to regain the
lead with 10 seconds remaining in regulation
but couldn’t capitalize. Blechel had an
open path to the goal, but her shot sailed
wide.
