men take 14th, women 11th at UCR

The
Long Beach State cross country team competed
and fared well in its first “true race of
the season,” Distance Coach Geoff Masanet
said in a statement earlier this week.
At the UC Riverside Invitational, which
will serve as the venue for the 2002 Cross
Country Championships, on Saturday, the
men’s squad finished 14th of 26 teams, while
the women’s team placed 11th out of a field
of 14.
Jenny Yadon led the the pack for the 49ers
women’s team with a time of 19:21.90, finishing
in 30th place. Other notable performances
for The Beach on the women’s side included
Sharon Burnett, who finished 55th with a
time of 19:52.50.
For the LBSU men, Kenny Lawrence led the
way with a time of 26:30.00 in 68th place.
Brian Robles placed 88th with a time of
27:01.00, and freshman Randy Hills took
96th place with a time of 27:09.50.
