49ers sweep Idaho, Utah St.

Elisha ThomasThe Long Beach State women’s volleyball team improved to 10-0 after sweeping both the University of Idaho Vandals, 30-20, 30-20, 30-27, and the Utah State Aggies (30-19, 30-21, 30-24) in six straight games.
 
The 49ers are 2-0 in the Big West Conference and are unbeaten in 25 straight conference matches.
 
Senior Elisha Thomas led The Beach with a team-high 10 kills against the Aggies Saturday night at The Spectrum in Logan, Utah. Senior Brittany Hochevar added nine kills, 27 assists, and three service aces, while sophomore Kessie Doering posted seven kills and three digs.
 
Tereza Cernianska of Utah State (5-6, 0-2) had a match-high 11 kills, while Zuzana Cernianska dished out 23 assists. In addition, the Aggies hit .038 for the match.
 
On Thursday night, Thomas, Hochevar, and Doering led The Beach to another victory, over the Vandals, at Memorial Gym in Moscow, Idaho. LBSU has now won ten consecutive matches over Idaho, dating back to the 1984 season.
 
Thomas tallied a team-high 11 kills and .450 attack percentage, while Hochevar pounded down eight kills, 29 assists, and a .500 attack percentage. Doering added a career-high 12 digs, while Erika Chidster also contributed with nine kills and seven solo blocks.
 
Idaho’s Mandy Beacker gave the Vandals 32 assists, while Anna-Marie Hammond had a match-high 13 kills and a .455 attack percentage.
 
LBSU held Idaho to just a .113 attack percentage for the entire match, including a .077 percentage in game two.
 
The Beach is ranked atop the Big West Conference in opponent hitting percentage at .131. In addition, LBSU also placed No. 10 all-time for most block assists in a single match with the 27 block assists gained against the Idaho.
 
The 49ers will be back at The Pyramid on Friday at 7:30p.m. against UC Santa Barbara.
