Surviving the holiday season

Thanksgiving is now over and the Christmas season has officially begun.

Anyway, it is completely evident that just like every other year, the entire month of December will be a constant barrage of holiday sights, smells, tastes and unfortunately sounds.

The sounds are what really get the majority of us wishing for the rapid passing of Christmas. That same sappy Christmas music will seep from the speakers of virtually every business open to the public. And if you are unfortunate enough to work at any of these businesses take solace in the fact that you are not alone in your misery, and there are only 24 more days to go.

If the sounds of the season were not bad enough, the sights should be enough to really finish anyone off. We can all count on only seeing the same old Christmas movies on television over and over again. And Santa Clauses will greet, or scare patrons of every department store and mall.

The worst sign of the season is the endless crowds of people in the stores and on the roads rushing around in mad frenzies to buy, buy, buy. The people alone are enough to make a person want to hole up in a dark closet.

Although it will be a challenge, it is possible to survive the Christmas season, it can and has been done before. Just remember, and take hope in the fact that it will end.
