Boss defends dorm R.A.s
This
is in response to the letters printed on
Nov. 14 from Lee Myers and Margo Kasdan
regarding the vandalism in Parkside Commons.
Lee
Myers and Margo Dasdan do not live or work
in the residence halls, have not had direct
contact with those involved in the incident,
and therefore obviously do not know all
the details of what happened. I do not doubt
that Robbie Cardenas is sorry for his involvement
in what happened, but that does not mean
he shouldn’t be responsible for the part
he did take, because there is no doubting
that he was involved.
Myers
made direct reference to R.A.s on my staff,
saying that their statements were based
on assumption. That is completely inaccurate,
their statements were based on their direct
involvement in the incident. They were there,
Lee Myers was not.
My
R.A.s became involved after residents brought
the vandalism to their attention, and they
also talked to residents to gather information,
including written statements about what
they witnessed. The R.A.s were simply doing
their jobs when they had to respond to a
situation where a vicious statement was
written on a wall, a statement directed
at them because of it’s nature. Before people
start passing judgments on the staff here,
they need to put themselves in their shoes.
I
care about all of my R.A.s very much both
as staff members and people. They are some
of the most amazing individuals I have ever
met, and I respect them and trust their
judgment. Ebony, Jashad, Barlas, and all
the other R.A.s here care about others every
day as part of their position, and because
of that they need to look out for the best
interests of everyone. That includes Cardenas
and all the residents in the halls. I feel
that Meyers should take some of her own
advice in caring more about the facts and
others, because her letter obviously shows
that she does not.
