Letters

Parent criticizes journalists
This
letter is written in response to the malicious,
libel, moronic and slanderous article written
in the On-line Forty-Niner Nov. 7.
First of all, I by no means condemn the
behavior of the moron that perpetrated this
vandalism but you’ve got the wrong man!
Without any regard to investigative journalism,
Kristen Force did her best to convict this
young man with a stroke of her pen. There
was no witness, no hearing, no formal investigation,
and no due process that I can see of any
kind.
Ebony Johnson makes slanderous, inflammatory
statements based on assumption only!
Worried about your safety Jashad Tillmon?
Do you think this freshman is safe after
your remarks? Oh yes we can’t forget Barlas
Esin’s comment’s — wait let’s just call
him “ignoramus.” He did little to no investigation
himself. He insulted the man’s family and
assumed himself to be more enlightened than
we ordinary folk. “Ignoramus” seems to know
how a bigot reasons and operates. Well,
“Ignoramus,” I’m a prejudice person myself
— I cannot tolerate irresponsible behavior!
The On-line Forty-Niner’s reckless journalism
has harmed more people than it cares to
know. That is because the editorial staff
doesn’t care.
Before you hang someone without due process
let’s remember why racism is such an open
wound on our culture and why we should care
a little more about the facts and each other.

Student
unfairly accused
I
am concerned about your editorial that was
printed on Nov. 11. I notice that no proof
is provided of the offense of which Robbie
Cardenas is accused, although the headline,
“Scholar Proves Undeserving,” suggests the
opposite.
Were there witnesses? Is there evidence
linking him to the graffiti? The editorial
states that the young man denies involvement
in the incident, and that the incident is
being investigated. The rest of the editorial
proceeds to try Mr. Cardenas, find him guilty,
and sentence him.
It has always been American policy that
a person was innocent until proven guilty.
Why is Mr. Cardenas not accorded this right?
Or why isn’t the public given the appropriate
information?

Accused
student apologizes
Many
things have been said about me and what
happened. I hope and pray that everyone
will soon learn the truth.
Regardless, I am deeply sorry that this
happened, not because of any sanctions Cal
State Long Beach may take, but because the
racial slur that was written on the dormitory
wall was absolute in its insensitivity and
deeply hurtful to my fellow students. To
all who live in my dormitory and to all
who may learn of this incident, I ask that
you accept my apology for inviting this
person to our campus. This incident is so
distant from my personal beliefs and character.
Whether I remain a member of Parkside Commons
or not, I pledge to you that I will do everything
in my power to prevent and oppose any future
incidents of this nature of any kind.
