I
am writing this letter in regard to the
Oct. 29 article titled, “All Things Cannot
be Controlled.” I found it very interesting
that the author tries to justify the fact
that “school shootings happen” and there’s
really nothing we can do to stop them. After
witnessing a similar situation at a high
school campus myself, I find it hard to
believe that things cannot be done and security
measures cannot be increased to prevent
this type of atrocity. It is my opinion
that the inconvenience of waiting a couple
extra minutes to go through a metal detector
supremely outweighs the superficial idea
that bad things happen all the time and
it is our place as human beings to accept
it. Next time something bad happens to our
country maybe we should just stop and not
do anything about it, and apply the idea
that “all things cannot be controlled” to
our everyday lives.
