An
Associated Students Inc. committee has been
meeting in recent weeks to develop and promote
a campaign to educate Cal State Long Beach
students about the proposed student recreation
center.
The committee is responsible for conducting
an educational campaign that will inform
the campus community about the student recreation
center in the most effective manner.
“Our meetings are every Wednesday at 1 p.m.,”
said Sen. Adam Anderson said.
Anderson said the committee wants to encourage
as many students as possible to get involved
in the campaign to bring a student recreation
center to CSULB.
In a Nov. 6 Senate meeting, Anderson requested
the presence of more senators at the committee
meetings.
“Last week I was the only senator at the
meeting,” Anderson remarked. “We would like
more of you to attend these meetings.”
Anderson also commented that the committee
is in need of student volunteers.
“By the spring we hope to have 75 people
working to promote the Student Recreation
center on campus,” Anderson said.
The committee is still very much in the
recruitment stage. The members will be setting
up informational booths on campus, posting
and handing out fliers as well as handbills
— yellow flyers that are already prevalent
on campus — while making classroom presentations.
The committee has also placed a promotional
ad in the On-line Forty-Niner.
One of the more delicate issues facing the
committee is the parking situation and the
possibility of a parking fee increase. Sen.
Ricardo Carlos said he would be leading
an informational research team that will
explore the aspects of that situation and
others pertaining to the construction of
the student recreation center.
The Student Recreation Center committee
meets in the USU - 225 every Wednesday at
1 p.m. At its last meeting, committee members
reiterated the fact that they must get as
many students involved as possible.
The committee is recruiting organizational
presidents as well as members of the college
councils in an effort to bolster their campaign.
