In
the first Associated Students Inc. meeting
of the fall semester, senators were appointed
to the committee on college councils in
an effort to make each college council stronger.
Each college has an advisory board responsible
for coordinating events and activities within
the college. The A.S.I. Senate passed a
bylaw in October 2001 to appoint two senators
to the committee.
“This committee is really fresh,” Vice President
Shahrokh Sheik said. “There has been a lot
of interest to start this council.”
The committee consists of seven college
council members and two senators.
Senators Lauren Haverlock and Charlotte
Mata were appointed for the coming school
year.
“I’m very dedicated to a lot of the work
that goes on around campus,” Mata said.
“I want to help bring about ideas for all
the colleges, especially so my college,
the natural sciences, can become as strong
as some of the others.”
Haverlock explained how her experience within
the College of Business has prepared her
for a position on the college council.
“I’d like to see other colleges become as
strong as the business college,” she said.
“Working together will benefit all the organizations.”
In other news, senate representatives were
appointed to commissions including conservation,
entertainment, public affairs, awards and
special events.
Michael Strong was approved by the Senate
to represent students with disabilities.
He is a returning member who held this position
last year.
“Last year we made some great progress,”
Strong said.
