Spooky event swarms campus

Students are invited to attend Thursday’s Spooktacular festivities, which encourage faculty and staff to compete against each other in Halloween-themed contests.

Charleen Rice, who is helping to coordinate the event, said she expects about 100 to 150 to attend the costume-optional event at the second floor courtyard of the University Student Union.

Scheduled activities include individual and group costume contests and a department decorating contest, though participants are known to also act out skits.

Contest prizes will include congratulatory plaques and a gift certificate for a pizza party at Round Table Pizza in the University Student Union.

Last year’s group costume winners were Facilities Management with their “Women at Work” theme, the Foundation Office for their “Uncle Sam” theme and the Audio/Visual department for their “Harry Potter” theme.

Some of the departments and offices participating in this year’s decorating contest are the Copy Center, the clothing department of the University Bookstore, the convenience stores located at the bookstore and in the USU, the physics department office and several offices in Brotman Hall.

In addition to the costume contests, Spooktacular will feature music and door prizes.

The annual event will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the second floor courtyard of the USU.
