Honest
show reveals humor on airwaves
By Sonya Smith
On-line Forty-Niner
She
has been described as short, blunt and spastic
and she airs her radio show from 9 to10
p.m. Mondays.
This
person is none other than KBeach’s Lisa
Jablonsky.
“This [radio show] is something that I have
always wanted to do,” Jablonsky said.
As her inspiration, the senior theater major
said she looks to ’50s comic Lenny Bruce,
who was known for openly discussing taboo
subjects.
“‘Lisa’s Honest Show,’” Jablonsky said,
“is about people having a place to express
themselves [and] to put a voice to things
that nobody else can.”
Jablonsky stressed she does not say things
on her show for mere shock value because
she said she believes people with radio
shows should not be jerks.
For her next show, Jablonsky said she will
discuss the Kurt Cobain Murder Theory and
feature conversation clips such as one with
the late Cobain’s wife, Courtney Love, Nirvana
music clips and a guest speaker who was
involved with the case.
One of Jablonsky’s fellow DJ’s at Kbeach,
philosophy major Dave Relf, has known her
for six years. Of Jablonsky’s show, Relf
said, “she has taken the freedom of the
station [and has] run with it.”
Relf added “it is good that she is putting
herself out there because she has comedic
potential.”
Jablonsky’s ex-boyfriend, Dan Spinelli said,
“I think the show is great. She puts in
an extension of herself with her issues,
opinions and love of Nirvana.”
Second year communications major, Neil Rivas
is the business manager at KBeach and has
known Jablonsky since the beginning of the
semester. Rivas said Lisa’s Honest Show
“is one of the better shows at KBeach.”
Rivas added that one of Jablonsky’s best
qualities is that she speaks her mind. The
show is well structured and contains good
information, Rivas said.
Listener, fellow disc jockey and third year
speech communications major Adam Rodriguez
said, “The show was pretty funny, original
and upbeat”, said Rodriguez.
Though this is Jablonsky’s first radio show,
she worked as a newspaper reporter for the
Long Beach Press-Telegram for two and a
half years and has done stand-up comedy
since she was 16. Jablonsky said her dream
job would be writing screen and theater
plays.
Upcoming shows being considered include
a show where Jablonsky interviews her ex-boyfriends
and a show featuring various stand-up comedians.
Jablonsky’s show can be heard online at
www.kbeach.org
or on the Long Beach Community channel.
