CSULB to host professional schools event

Students at Cal State Long Beach will have the opportunity to visit with graduate schools from across the country during the Graduate and Professional Schools Day Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CSULB will host between 95 and 100 graduate and professional schools. The event will have a fair type atmosphere and will feature representatives from various schools.

The event’s purpose is to have representatives from graduate and professional schools discuss admission procedures, financial aid and other opportunities with students at CSULB.

“This is a good way for the students to make contact with the school of their choice. They can ask questions, get names of people to contact, and network in various ways,” she added.

The University of Notre Dame, John Hopkins University School of Nursing, Hawaii Pacific University, Finch University/School College of Pediatric Medicine, UC Davis, CSU Hayward, American College of Traditional Chinese, UC Berkeley, Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara/School of Medicine, UC San Francisco, UC San Diego and will all have representatives on campus for the students to speak with personally.

The event marks the beginning of a circuit of the graduate school information days. Several schools will hold this same type of event in October, but CSULB’s event is the only one hosted by the Educational Opportunity Program.

The graduate schools response has been impressive.

“I am impressed with all the schools that are traveling here, especially after the events of 9/11,” said Bobbie Rodgers, EOP counselor and coordinator of the event.

USC will have 10 departments represented, UCLA will have eight departments, and the University of Michigan will send four departments. CSULB will have approximately 10 departments represented.

“We don’t overlook our graduate schools,” Rodgers said. “The deans of our departments are invited to share what we have to offer here at Cal Long Beach.
