Halloween
is approaching and ghouls and goblins everywhere
are being encouraged to rise from the realms
of the “other world” and come to work for
Knott’s Scary Farm and the Queen Mary to
provide scares for thousands of thrill-seekers
this season.
Every year the two Southern California attractions
hire more employees in order to accommodate
the onslaught of people in what has become
one of the busiest times of the year for
them.
According to Jimmy Holguin, a representative
of Knott’s Berry Farm, applications are
being accepted for all departments and new
hires will be hired on a part-time basis.
Holguin said, however, that at the end of
the busy season, new employees would have
options available to them to remain employed
at the park.
The Halloween Haunt at Knott’s Berry Farm
is in its 30th year of existence, and very
often the amusement park sees returning
applicants eager to dress up and scare the
living daylights out of people.
“I’ve been doing this eight years,” said
Jeremy Shumake, a monster who was on campus
last week scaring students and promoting
the event. “It’s a lot of fun.”
According to Holguin, positions for all
departments are open, including ride operators,
food service, retail sales, games, park
services, security, guest services, traffic
control, banquet servers and hotel room
attendants. Applications will be accepted
until Sept 31.
Cal State Long Beach students who are interested
in earning some extra cash next month can
apply by visiting the Knott’s Recruiting
Office at Knott’s Berry Farm, located at
8039 Beach Blvd. in Buena Park, Monday through
Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Students can also obtain information by
calling (714) 220-5200 or by visiting www.halloweenhaunt.com
and looking under “Jobs.”
The Queen Mary also has positions available
for students looking to get dressed up and
make some extra money next month.
According to Robin Wachner of the public
relations department of the Queen Mary,
about 400 monsters, ghouls and goblins are
needed for this year’s “Shipwreck Halloween”
event.
“This is a good part-time job,” Wachner
said.
Those who are hired will have a four-day
orientation to the ship.
“[New hires] will go through scare school
where they will learn how to be monsters,”
Wachner said.
Those who are interested can attend an audition
on Thursday and Friday in the Queen Mary’s
Royal Salon at 6 p.m.
The Queen Mary is also hiring makeup artists.
According to Wachner, applicants do not
need to be certified but do have to bring
a portfolio of their work. Students can
bring their portfolio to the Queen Mary’s
Royal Salon on Friday at 8 p.m.
