“Laura
Siquerios: A Mexican” an art exhibit featuring
the paintings of an emerging immigrant artist
from Guadalajara, Mexico is now on display
at a gallery in downtown Long Beach.
Laura Siqueiros infused the love for her
country with the rich history of its culture,
creating thematic works of art entitled
“Laura Siqueiros: A Mexican”
“Everything is about Mexico,” Siqueiros,
resident of Newport Beach said, “I used
encaustics, an ancient painting technique
that uses wax and pigments.”
As a personal touch with significance, Siqueiros
added a touch of red color, in some form
or another, to every painting.
“Mexico
to me is red,” she said, “it is good and
bad, angry, happy and sad, and emotional,”
she said.
As part of the East Village Tour des Artistes,
the exhibition was held at the Second City
Council art gallery, where the public were
able to meet Siqueiros. An evening
reception included a Latin band, food and
drinks and was held on the gallery’s rooftop
located on the historic Ocean Center
Building.
Cheryl Bennet, owner of the gallery said
this was the gallery’s first solo exhibit,
and she was proud to present Laura’s beautiful
paintings.
“All of Laura’s art tells a story and I
think it is valuable,” Bennet said.
“I know the impact art has had on my life
and I want everyone to know about the artists
in California.”
Along with this exhibit, Bennet was also
proud to present the gallery’s first out
of ten exhibit workshops exhibit held in
the new Christensen-Aran Youth Gallery.
“These
are photographic images taken by teens living
in group homes in Long Beach, and we wanted
them to showcase their work,” she said.
The paintings will be on display at the
gallery for six weeks, and it is open to
the public. For more information on
the artist or the gallery students can go
