It’s
beginning to look a lot like Christmas at
the Edison Theatre in downtown Long Beach.
Beginning Friday, California Repertory will
be performing its traditional play “An O.
Henry Christmas.”
Written by Cal Rep’s own Artistic Producing
Director, Howard Burman, the play is based
on several O. Henry stories, including,
“The Gift of the Magi,” “Two Thanksgiving
Gentlemen” and “The Last Leaf.” Burman
is also the chairman of the theater department
at Cal State Long Beach.
Though based on several stories, the play
is presented as one
cohesive story.
According to Jennifer Kahler of Cal Rep,
the play is a tradition for many Long Beach
theater goers.
“Quite a few [audience members] are tradition
people who see it every year,” Kahler said.
Among this year’s actors are Zoe Saba, Jason
Martin, Kenneth Hanson and Kelly Ford. Patrick
Taylor will direct this year’s production.
According to Kahler, the show, which is
running from Dec. 6 through Dec. 21, usually
brings in a good crowd to the 99-seat Edison
Theatre.
Tickets are available from the Edison Theatre
box office and the ticket office at the
Carpenter Performing Arts Center.
