The
band CKY, otherwise known as the music soundtrack
to “Jackass the Movie” and “MTV’s Jackass,”
has been given the intensely sought-after
opening slot on the Guns N’ Roses national
tour.
CKY
is known for its hard rock, punk and rhythmic
pop sounds. The band’s new album, “Infiltrate
Destroy Rebuild,” debuted at No. 99 on Billboard’s
Top 200 chart. In addition to “Jackass,”
the band is also known for its own films,
directed by skateboarder and filmmaker Bam
Margera.
While
the band was putting together its first
album, Margera, who also is the brother
of CKY drummer Jess Margera, was putting
together his own skateboard video. Margera
and the band put two and two together, and
soon CKY videos were dominating the skateboard
realm.
Dino
Takos, a junior speech communication major,
talks about why he enjoys CKY’s videos.
“They
give you eye candy,” Takos said. “I like
how they give you all those crazy scenes
of wild things happening.”
CKY,
short for Camp Kill Yourself, opened for
Guns N’ Roses on Nov. 7 in Vancouver, British
Columbia and are scheduled to appear with
Guns N’ Roses for the first 14 dates of
the tour. CKY also has its own separate
tour dates for this year. “Axl
found us at the last minute, and we were
able to give him a package of us just in
time,” said Chad Ginsberg, co-guitarist
for the band. “Axl was having trouble finding
a good enough band, but then he found us.”
This
highly energetic band is all about its fans
and staying true to its music. CKY is bold
and does not hold anything back.
“We
just want to be the biggest band,” Ginsburg
said. “We set to be ourselves for life”
The
four piece band originated in Westchester,
Penn. It consists of vocalist Deron Miller,
co-guitarist Chad Ginsberg, lead guitarist
Vern Zaborowski and drummer Jess Margera.
The
band joined the Vans Warped Tour in 1999,
but according to Ginsberg, they were kicked
off the tour for selling fake VIP passes
to their family and friends.
CKY
was also on tour with Godsmack, Deftones,
and Puddle of Mud. According to an MTV online
article by Jon Wiederhorn, a few things
the band had to say about the tour.
“We
were on tour just for the Deftones, because
they invited us and they’re really nice
guys,” Jess Margera said. “But the Godsmack
crowd is pretty much just the radio crowd
and they’re not feeling anything, but that
nu-metal type deal. He was all about himself
and were not down with dealing with that.”
CKY
stresses the importance of their fans. They
have a unique Web site that is especially
designed for their fans, and they have a
section of over 2,000 questions asked by
various fans.
