Detour
Posse will be performing their reggae tunes
today from noon to 1 p.m. at the Southwest
Terrace near the University Student Union
at Cal State Long Beach.
Detour Posse appeared on Los Angeles’ reggae
music scene in 1994 with seven members seeking
to create a new breed of reggae music, blending
roots, dancehall, ska, funk and R&B,
according to detourposse.com.
The band’s members are from the Long Beach
and Los Angeles areas and are popular among
students, said senior liberal studies major
Are Olukemi, program assistant of the USU
Program Council that sponsors the event.
“I like them a lot,” said Tetsuro Miura,
a second bachelor film student. “They’ re
cool. I’m going to see their live performance
for sure.”
The council has hosted a series of band-performances
as part of an entertainment program for
the students on campus, Olukemi said.
“We have different bands Mondays and Wednesdays
of each week through the semester,” Olukemi
said.
The band has been to CSULB three times in
the past and received good responses from
students each time. The council chose them
for today’s live performance due to the
band’s success on campus.
“Detour Posse has a lot of students on campus
who really like them and who go to their
show. I think the event will go very well.”
Olukemi said.
