Local band ignites stage at The Whiskey

By Jack Schneider
On-line Forty-Niner

The lights dimmed and Long Beach’s Jack’s Smirking Revenge took over the stage on Friday night at the Whiskey in Hollywood.

JSRJSR is composed of students from Cal State Long Beach including rapper Adam Centeno, singer Said Montufar, as well as bassist Jeremy Guthrie, guitarist Paul Elyousfi and drummer Adam Smeaton.

The band’s music is a fusion of groups such as “System of a Down” and “Linkin Park,” but its performance is at a level of its own.

Centeno and Montufar amped up a group of moshers and rockers as some audience members shouted “Long Beach” in between songs. The two singers worked the crowd and put amazing energy into their performance.

Some of the songs performed live at JSR shows are “Dusta,” a track filled with eerie guitar riffs along with hardcore lyrics and angst rap lyrics. Other songs included the tension-filled “RedRum” and the hyper paced “Vatos Locos.”

About half way during the set, Smeaton lost one of the drum sticks but kept on playing not even worrying about the loss.

As the set neared an end, JSR performed a rock version of the chorus of Ludacris’ hit song “Move.”

JSR plans to hit the Whiskey again on Dec. 28.
