For
a band that has been together less than
a year, Los Angeles-based Drivethru Jesus
band members showed musical maturity beyond
their years when they played to a captive
audience Wednesday at the University Student
Union.
Catchy leads, melodic lines and a driving
rhythm proved enough to keep the crowd of
students pumped up.
Drummer Ron Pak, who has been playing for
26 years, laid down a solid rhythm that
drove the music with intense energy.
“Our drummer makes my job easy. I never
have to look at him,” said bass player John
E. Kaye.
“We’ve all been playing music [at least]
12 to 15 years,” Kaye said.
The members of Drivethru Jesus have played
in a multitude of bands. As a result of
band break-ups and line up changes, they
formed the band less than a year ago.
The band said it draws most of its musical
influence from bands such as Tool, Helmut
and Stone Temple Pilots.
“We’ve primarily spent the last year just
concentrating on writing and rehearsing,”
said lead singer Matt Page.
While playing primarily around Los Angeles
and on college campuses, Drivethru Jesus
has played only about 20 shows together.
As such a young band, however, the members
have managed to travel as far as Las Vegas
and Arizona to share their music with audiences.
