Clothing
moves into fall fashions
Janelle L.
Burns - Fashionably
Tuesday
When I was little, my grandmother suggested
I draw outfits. My first design was a blue
sailor dress. Then there were Fashion Plates,
a stencil-type toy where I could coordinate
and color outfits. In high school, a senior
named Nicole Yates carried the latest fashion
magazine while sporting amazing makeup and
clothes. Without her ever knowing, she was
my idol, especially considering I was an
impressionable freshman still in that grunge
phase.
The movie “Clueless,” starring Alicia Silverstone
as Cher, made its debut. Her motorized rotating
closet racks, her computer coordinated outfit
selector, the adorable clothes she wore!
Although the movie is pouty and frivolous,
it sent my passion for fashion over the
edge.
With my borderline obsession, I’m majoring
in fashion merchandising, heading up my
own clothing label, and now I’m the newest
weekly addition to the On-line Forty-Niner
newspaper. I assure you up-to-date quality
information, even if my opinion is different
from yours.
Fall is the best season for fashion. After
pulling up strapless bras you so painstakingly
wore for the sake of summer tanks and transparent
peasant tops, you can kick them to the curb
and welcome in the fall wardrobe. Fall clothing
is like comfort food. Chunky sweaters, knee
length skirts and boots, different textures
like angora, cashmere, and corduroy! These
are the clothing equivalent to a bowl of
creamy mashed potatoes.
Hopefully you’re looking forward to purchasing
some fab pieces for the new season,
I won’t blatantly tell you what to wear,
but if I had to pick just one fall essential,
it would be corduroy. It’ll be popping up
everywhere this fall, and besides, who doesn’t
look and feel great in a pair of low-slung
cords?
Corduroy pants are a must, but don’t forget
about the other items that are out there.
Fitted jackets, big puffy jackets, bags,
hair wraps and headbands… there are many
ways to fit this fabric into your style
so don’t pass it up!
