The
52nd annual Cal State Long Beach Commencement ceremonies
began with handfuls of confetti being tossed at graduates
and loud cheers in the Central Quadrangle last Wednesday.
More than 4,000 students walked across the stage at Cal
State Long Beach.

Cal
State Long Beach has proudly been named in the Hispanic
Outlook in Higher Education's Top 100 list of four-year
U.S. colleges and universities that conferred the most
academic degrees of Latino students.

Former
U.S. Secretary of the Army and former California Assembly
Member Louis Caldera was named California State University
Vice Chancellor Monday.

summer
Though
prices for summer school have dropped compared to previous
summers, some students are still not aware that their
classes are cheaper and that taking additional classes
can lower prices even more.

opts not to recognize Gay Pride Month
Groups
on and off campus that support diversity, like the Women's
Resource Center and the Gay and Lesbian Community Center
of Greater Long Beach, are finding little surprise in
President George W. Bush's announcement last week that
he was opting out of Gay Pride Month.

outstanding graduates were able to sit and share their
accomplishments on a platform with Cal State Long Beach
President Robert Maxson and other distinguished faculty
during last week’s 2001 Commencement ceremonies.

stays alive
Although the 2000-2001 performance season at the Carpenter
Performing Arts Center is over, there will still be productions
presented by two of the theater's resident companies taking
place this summer, including one starting Sunday.

The year was 1984 and everybody was walking around singing
the theme to "Ghostbusters," the little comedy
that could, which starred Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd
fighting ghosts.

Beach State baseball player Bobby Crosby was chosen in
the first round of the Major League Baseball free-agent
draft by the Oakland Athletics Tuesday.
