The Long Beach
State track and field program has announced the signing of
18 new team members, according to LBSU Sports Information.
Nine men and nine
women were among the signees, and six are college transfers:
Shaun Anderson (Penn State), Anthony Colson (Cal State Northridge),
Jamaal James (Nichols State), Cory Loebl (Clackamas CC), Sharon
Burnett (Portland State) and Shannon Daniels (Syracuse).
Among the incoming
freshmen are Matt Bates from Los Gatos, who was the state's
second-ranked competitor in the 1600-meters, Maurice Dosty
of Stockton, a sprinter who was a 2001 state qualifier in
the 100- and 200-meters and Whittier's Steve Holland, who
was a CIF champion in the shot put in 2001.
Women freshmen
include Charlene Deardorff of San Jose, a sprinter who placed
third at the 2001 CIF Central Coast Sectional in the 100-meters,
Emily Forsythe of La Cresenta, a high jumper who finished
fifth in the
state, Betsey Lively of Caneyville, Ky., who ranked second
in the state of Kentucky in the 1600-meters and Michelle Pequignot
of Arroyo Grande, who registered top-10 state finishes in
the discus and shot put.
