The Pyramid to
host Pro League

Summer Forty-Niner
Several NBA players
will be among the competitors at the Southern California Summer
Pro League, which will begin it 32nd year of competition this
Saturday at The Pyramid, but the biggest name scheduled to
appear this summer hasn't played a NBA game since 1996.
Former Los Angeles
Lakers point guard Magic Johnson will make a special appearance
in the All-Star/Celebrity Game, Saturday July 14. Johnson
will play for the Great Danes against the Young Guns, with
game time set for 12:45 p.m.
The Summer Pro
League will run from July 7 until July 29. There will be five
games a day from July 7 until July 26, playoffs July 27 to
July 28, and a championship game July 29 at 3 p.m.
Ten NBA teams will
be represented, including the Lakers and the Clippers. NBA
players Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics, Dirk Nowitzki of
the Dallas Mavericks and Baron Davis of the Charlotte Hornets,
among others, are scheduled to appear.
Also scheduled
to appear is Tyson Chandler, a center from Dominguez High
in Compton who was picked second overall in the recent NBA
draft by the Clippers. The Clippers traded Chandler to the
Chicago Bulls.
Thirty teams overall
will compete, including the Ukrainian and Canadian national
teams.
