Reed named to
the U.S. Baseball National Team

On-line Summer Forty-Niner
Jeremy Reed, who
led Long Beach State with 80 hits and 23 stolen bases this
season, was named to the U.S. Baseball National Team Tuesday.
Reed, a sophomore
infielder-outfielder who batted .348 with 40 RBIs for the
Dirtbags this season, was named to the team after four days
of workouts in Tucson, Ariz. The U.S. Baseball National Team
consists of 22 players and is coached by the University of
Florida's Pat McMahon.
The squad begins
play Saturday in Okinawa, Japan against Japan and completes
its 31-game schedule July 27 in Trenton, N.J. with a doubleheader
against Taiwan.
Dirtbag shortstop
Bobby Crosby played for the team last summer, batting .294
with 20 RBIs in 29 games. Crosby was recently selected in
the first round of the Major League Baseball Free Agent draft
by the Oakland A's.
Over a hundred
former U.S. Baseball National Team members have moved on to
play major league baseball including former Dirtbags Jason
Giambi of the Oakland A's and Rocky Biddle of the Chicago
White Sox.
