Smoking retort
In regards to "Smoking
ban has no place on campus," which appeared June 14, I
think the Center for Heath Care Innovation program and Cal State
Long Beach should strive to make our campus smoke-free.
Smokers not only
endanger themselves but other students around them.
The sheer quantity
of cigarette butts around campus exemplifies the problem of
smokers and their utter disregard for the cleanliness of our
campus.
Natalie Whitehouse
should be commended for her efforts to push forward with this
proposal.
It is in the university's
best interest to remind students of the dangers of smoking
and the effects second-hand smoke can have on other students.
Smokers must take
responsibility for their actions and not disregard the interests
of the campus community because of their addiction.
There is nothing
positive about smoking and as long as the no smoking proposal
furthers a legitimate governmental purpose, then CSULB can
shield itself from any constitutional violation.
