New building,
more construction
By Tina Dhamija
Summer On-line Forty-Niner
Added to the list
of torn ground and dusty piles of rubble on and around Cal
State Long Beach is the current construction going on at the
south end of parking Lot 11.
Makeshift fencing
and bright orange cones occupy most of the lot's first few
rows of parking near its southeastern tip. Plans reveal that
the construction work in the lot is part of an even larger
project.
Directly adjacent
to the work being done in Lot 11 is moderately vacant land
where a new campus building is to be built. Being dubbed the
Collaborative Management Systems building by the CSULB Parking
and Transportation Services department, the new building will
be an addition to the computer information systems on this
campus.
"The work
going in Lot 11 has more to do with the new CMS building,"
said Tom Bass, director for Parking and Transportation services
on campus. "But the work over there will be completed
prior to the start of the fall semester," he said.
Currently, construction
to tie CMS's storm drains to the rest of CSULB is what is
tying up parking in Lot 11, Bass said. Immediate plans for
the development of CMS have not yet been released, however
Bass said that its main purpose is the installation and use
of "computerized systems for development on campus."
