State employees
will receive paychecks

Gov. Gray Davis
has not approved the budget passed by the state assembly on
July 16, however all California State University employees
will receive a paycheck whether Davis approves the budget
or not.
"He has only
had the budget for about a day now," said Ken Swisher,
spokesman for the chancellor's office. "It is only a
matter of him looking at the things that he wants to change."
There are two items
in the proposed budget that concern the CSU system that Gov.
Davis is looking at right now. According to Swisher, $5 million
is going to go into a workforce initiative for the programs
of nursing, computer science, agriculture, and engineering
and $1 million will go into an outreach program for the K-12
schools.
Swisher is hopeful
that the budget will be approved by the end of the week, and
he is confident that it will not affect CSU employee paychecks.
"This will
not be affecting CSU employees because we are classified differently,
and technically we are not a state agency," Swisher said.
