Rising thefts
concern police

Two vehicles within
one week have been stolen from Cal State Long Beach giving
University Police reason to investigate the similar crimes.
"Two reports
is enough to peak the interest," said Greg Pascal, communications
supervisor for the department.
The first report,
filed on Saturday involved a 1985 Toyota pickup truck that
was stolen from parking lot 11 near Palo Verde Avenue. No
suspects were detained and the vehicle was valued at $3,000.
Another report
was filed on Tuesday when a 1987 Toyota 4Runner was taken
from parking lot 15. The vehicle's estimated worth was $6,000.
No suspects were taken into custody, and neither car has been
recovered.
"Obviously
we're concerned when any vehicle is stolen," said Pascal.
The University
Police are investigating the crimes. The department said that
while the occurrence of two grand theft autos in one week
raises concerns, it is not untypical during the summer when
more people are on campus for special events and crime goes
up.
"It goes in
waves. We'll go weeks without one and then have a week where
we'll have several," Pascal said. "Students should
always be cautious where they park their vehicle."
