Jobtrak gets new name

By Stephine Michrina
Daily On-line Forty-Niner

Confused Cal State Long Beach students who logged onto the Career Development Center's JOBTRAK, found the link to the site sent them directly to monsterTRAK as of June 6. Monster.com, which purchased JOBTRAK last November, launched its job listing and resume service called monsterTRAK last week.

"MosterTRAK is just like JOBTRAK was," said Paul Fornell, acting director of the CDC.

The site, however, has changed the look of JOBTRAK to that of the highly marketed Monster.com.

"The function of the site really hasn't changed, but the look is different," Fornell said.
Students enrolled in classes full time can access monsterTRAK, which provides the latest regional job postings, for free.

Fornell stresses that there are distinct differences between Monster.com and monsterTRAK.

"MonsterTRAK has exclusive listings for CSULB," he said.

Recent CSULB graduates can also access the Web site to obtain information on current job openings in and around Long Beach up to three months after graduation.

"We waited to make the change until the end of the school year because we didn't want to confuse students," said Ken Ramberg, president of MonsterTRAK and co-founder of JOBTRAK.

Ramberg said students can expect more employers to list jobs on the new site because of Monster.com's large sales force.
The new site will also feature more international job postings, giving students increased opportunities to find jobs and internships abroad.

According to Ramberg, who came up with the idea of an electronic job posting bulletin board in 1988 when he visited his college career center at Stanford University, 50,000 students access JOBTRAC everyday.
