Career Center
to host workshops

The Cal State Long
Beach Career Development Center will host a series of summer
workshops designed to help students find and obtain the job
they desire.
The next workshop
will be held Thursday, and will focus on searching for government
job opportunities. The event will be held in BH-250 from 2
to 3 p.m. Following Thursday's workshop will be a series of
others that will range in topics from interviewing skills
to resume writing.
Paul Fornell, acting
director of the CDC, said Internet technology has made job
searches easier for recent CSULB graduates and current students
seeking employment.
"Technology
has helped us over the past decade to improve communication
between the employer and the student," Fornell said.
From online salary
surveys to Web sites that tutor students on how to write a
resume and cover letter, a wealth of helpful information has
been made available to students seeking employment.
"There's a
lot of opportunity out there," Fornell said.
One Web site Fornell
recommends is that of the National
Association of Colleges and Employment.
"They put
together an excellent salary survey," he said.
The association,
which also hosted a conference last month at the MGM Grand
Hotel in Las Vegas, represents the interests of more than
1,800 college career services. It also features articles that
give students insight into the employment process, as well
as recruiting advice.
Fornell recommends students visit the CDC for job listings
and workshop information. The center, which is open to all
students and alumni of CSULB, provides career planning and
placement, counseling and individual services like resume
writing and interviewing techniques.
