Lloyd, Reed, make
Big West first team
By Phil Witte
On-line Forty-Niner
Only guard Rock
Lloyd and center Travis Reed garnered end of season honors
for Long Beach State, but both of them made the first team,
Lloyd for the first team after back-to-back second team selections,
and Reed in his first year in the conference.
Despite the strong
season each had, neither was able to win player of the year
honors, which went to UC Irvine guard Jerry Green. The 6-foot-3
guard led the Big West in scoring with 19 points per game
and led the Anteaters to its best season in school history.
UCI's conference
winning campaign also earned Pat Douglass coach of the year
honors. The Anteaters had a school record 13-game winning
streak and finished the season ranked No. 32 in the AP.
Rounding out the
first team are senior forward Shawn Daniels and senior guard
Bernard Rock from Utah State, and Boise State junior forward
Abe Jackson.
Earning second
team honors were: Cal Poly senior forward Chris Bjorklund,
UC Santa Barbara's sophomore forward Mark Hull and junior
forward Mike Vukovich, UCI's senior guard Ben Jones, and Utah
State's junior guard Tony Brown.
