49ers split Orange
County schools
By Phil Witte

Head Coach Wayne
Morgan said that an opponent had to have its lunch pail full
if it hoped to knock off resurgent Long Beach State (16-12
overall, 9-6 Big West Conference).
Cal State Fullerton
(4-21, 3-12) brought a brown paper bag with a cheese sandwich,
a bag of chips and a juice box in falling to LBSU 69-68 last
Saturday night in Fullerton.
In contrast, UC
Irvine (21-3, 13-1) brought a shiny new Allen Iverson lunch
pail with a hero sandwich, fresh fruit and a thermos full
of whoop-ass in knocking off LBSU 83-78 last Thursday night
in Irvine, completing its first season sweep of the 49ers
in 15 years.
"We have to
take the lessons we've learned and apply them to the Big West
Tournament," Morgan said.

holds veteran status

Growing up in St.
Louis, Mo., Long Beach State freshman Scott Touzinsky never
imagined he would be playing volleyball in California, let
alone one of the 49ers' starting six at only18 years old.
The 6-foot-7 outside
hitter began his volleyball career at the age of seven when
a friend's mom asked Touzinsky's mother if he would like to
play on a team she was starting for children.
"She wanted
to bring us up," Touzinsky said.
