TRACK AND FIELD

Tayyiba Haneef

Birthdate: March 23, 1979
Hometown: Laguna Hills
Previous school: Laguna Hills HS
Event: high jump
Height: 6-foot-6
Class: senior
Major: speech communications

2000: Haneef was Co-MVP of Long Beach State's women's track and field team. She also won the Big West Conference Championship in the high jump with a mark of 6-1 1/4, which is her best. Haneef tied for seventh place in the NCAA Championships (5-11 1/4), which earned her NCAA Outdoor All-America status.

2001: Last Saturday, Haneef placed first in the triple meet at Washington State University against WSU and Boise State with a leap of 5-8 3/4. The senior also recorded first place finishes at the Cal/Nevada Championships (5-7 3/4), the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State University (5-8) and the Long Beach Collegiate Classic (5-7 3/4).
 

Coach's comments

"She has wonderful mental skills. She can always come back with a strong jump after a bad one… she doesn't get a lot of time with us [as compared to the volleyball team] but she performs consistently."
